“Sometimes you gotta go back to actually move forward.” Matthew McConaughey made this quote in his commercial for the Lincoln MKC in 2014.
However, when you are doing genealogical research, sometimes the exact opposite is true. Our objective is to trace our lines back and see where we came from. Many times we get stuck, hit a brick wall. How do we overcome these brick walls? We research forward. We trace the lines of our distant aunts, uncles and cousins forward with hopes that a clue, a tiny piece of information, will be enough to bring that wall down.
To all my fellow researchers, “sometimes you gotta go forward in order to go back”.
