Coxes of Cox Creek Footnotes
40. Calendar of Virginia State Papers, II, p. 47. Found on Hathitrust, this letter from Colonel Jon Floyd dated April 16, 1781 to Thomas Jefferson, Governor of Virginia. Governor Jefferson requested a contingency of soldiers to fortify the Continental Line on behalf of the Commonwealth of Col. Floyd explained the treacherous conditions currently plaguing the inhabitants of Kentucky, making his request difficult to fulfill.
41. Ibid., II, p. 313. Also found on Hathitrust, this letter is from Lt Col. John Montgomery dated August 10 1781 to Governor Nelson of Virginia. This missive relayed the dire food situation at the Falls of the Ohio (Louisville). It also included a debriefing of a soldier who had been taken captive by the British and held at Detroit prior to his escape.
42. The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society, XXXII, p. 169. Again, this reference can be found on JSTOR. The article relates the events of the burning of Kinchloe’s Station in 1782. - TK, a distant cousin needs resources. Not a fan of the Public Records Index, but I’ll use it if I have to. Fixed her sibling while I was at it too.
- AE, the husband of a distant cousin needs resources. I was able to find a marriage and divorce record for the couple.
- Sarah Pea, a distant cousin needs resources. This one I will need to revisit once I return home and can review the data in the Catt Book. I’m not 100% convinced the person Ancestry is leading me to is the correct Sarah Pea. Unfortunately FamilySearch is not much help either since Knox County records are blocked except at an Affiliate Library.
